Jumanji 3 (which is technically Jumanji 4) has been given a 2026 release date by Sony Pictures. Specifically, the sequel will aim for a holiday release in December 2026. According to reports, the whole cast is apparently in talks to return as well.
As reported by Deadline, Jumanji 3 has been given a release date of 11 December 2026. Beyond that, plot details aren’t known. However, the report states that the original cast, consisting of Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart and Karen Gillan, are in talks to return for the sequel. Jake Kasdan, who previously directed both 2017’s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and 2019’s Jumanji: The Next Level, is also set to return as the director of the next movie.
Of course, the latest string of Jumanji movies is loosely based on the classic 1995 adventure movie starring the late Robin Williams, which focused on a group of people who accidentally unleash mysterious forces from another world through a supernatural board game. The newer releases, however, change the formula to make Jumanji a video game instead of a board game. The original is considered a cult classic today.
The plot description for the 2019 movie, Jumanji: The Next Level, reads:
“The gang is back but the game has changed. As they return to Jumanji to rescue one of their own, they discover that nothing is as they expect. The players will have to brave parts unknown and unexplored, from the arid deserts to the snowy mountains, in order to escape the world’s most dangerous game.”
In other movie news, Sony Pictures recently released Venom: The Last Dance, the third and final entry in the Venom movie trilogy, to low review scores from audiences and critics. Sony Pictures doesn’t seem to be having much luck with its Marvel properties (which includes misfires like Madame Web and Morbius), so hopefully the Jumanji IP can still deliver the goods.
