Keanu Reeves has been tapped to star in the upcoming Hulu serial killer TV series, The Devil in the White City. The series has been in various stages of development for more than a decade now. Leonardo DiCaprio, who originally acquired the rights to the property back in 2010, will serve as an executive producer on the show alongside Martin Scorsese.
The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Reeves will star in The Devil in the White City, based on the best-selling book by Erik Larson. The book tells the true story of the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair. Reeves will play Daniel H. Burnham, a visionary architect who aims to leave his mark on the fair. However, Dr. H.H. Holmes also constructs a hotel around this time to capitalise on the fair’s crowds of visitors. Unbeknownst to the visitors, Holmes doubles as a serial killer who creates elaborate traps in his “murder hotel.”

The role of H.H. Holmes has yet to be cast, though it doesn’t seem like DiCaprio is attached to take on the character. He would’ve likely played Holmes when The Devil in the White City was originally envisioned as a movie at Paramount Pictures, which Scorsese was set to direct.
Sam Shaw, the showrunner of Hulu’s Castle Rock, will act as the series’ writer, showrunner and executive producer. Todd Field will serve as its director.
Following deals struck with Hulu back in 2019, Reeves will not only star in The Devil in the White City but also take on an executive producer role. The Matrix actor currently has a sleuth of projects in development. Apart from the Hulu TV series, Reeves will also star in John Wick: Chapter 4 and Chapter 5, as well as a live-action adaptation of the comic book series BRZRKR, which Reeves created and wrote himself.
