The first trailer for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes has been released, preparing viewers for another impending war. It’s set a few generations into the future after the events of 2017’s War for the Planet of the Apes and follows apes as the new dominant species on Earth. Mankind has been wiped out except for a few human survivors that live under the reign of the apes. However, Caesar’s children will have their status and beliefs challenged by another ape ruler who wants to hunt down and kill the surviving humans.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes will be directed by Wes Ball, best known for directing the Maze Runner trilogy. Ball will also direct the upcoming live-action Legend of Zelda movie for Nintendo. The movie stars Freya Allan, who plays Ciri in Netflix’s The Witcher, as a young human survivor named Mae. Andy Serkis will seemingly not return as Caesar considering that the movie takes place several generations after he was alive, though Kevin Durand (I Am Number Four) will play his descendant, Proximus Caesar.
The official plot description for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes gives fans a bit of context for the plot, reading:
“Director Wes Ball breathes new life into the global, epic franchise set several generations in the future following Caesar’s reign, in which apes are the dominant species living harmoniously and humans have been reduced to living in the shadows. As a new tyrannical ape leader builds his empire, one young ape undertakes a harrowing journey that will cause him to question all that he has known about the past and to make choices that will define a future for apes and humans alike.”
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes hits cinemas on 10 May 2024. Check out the exciting first trailer below:
