The Kingsman franchise could still have one more movie in it, according to actor Taron Edgerton who played Eggsy in the first two movies. This follows recent comments made by 20th Century president Steve Asbell who told The Hollywood Reporter back in October that the studio had “no plans” to do another chapter in the Kingsman franchise.
Responding to the comments by Asbell, Taron Edgerton told Screen Rant in a recent interview, “I believe that was said by somebody from Fox, I think.” Edgerton added that him and director Matthew Vaughn, who directed all the Kingsman movies thus far, are keen on continuing the series and making another movie.
“I think… I don’t know, and I don’t want to speak out of school, but I don’t think that necessarily means that we won’t do it,” said Edgerton. “I think Matthew and I very much want to do one more. I want to do one more. And so while, you know, we don’t have a shoot date yet, I think it could still happen.”
The first movie in the franchise, Kingsman: The Secret Service, released in 2014 and received positive reviews, mainly for its ingenious twist on the spy genre with Vaughn’s solid direction. A sequel, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, released in 2017 and received slightly less positive reviews but it was still a hit at the box office – enough to greenlight a third movie, The Kingsman, which arrived in 2021 and acted as a prequel to the first movie. Middling reviews and a mixed box office reception led to 20th Century Fox dropping plans for a continuation of the series.
