After the success of the original Knives Out and its recently released sequel Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, director Rian Johnson has confirmed that he’s working on Knives Out 3 next. The murder mystery series starring Daniel Craig as the eccentric detective Benoit Blanc has achieved critical and commercial success so it makes sense that Johnson would want to push ahead with a third movie.
During a recent interview with Empire, Johnson confirmed that his next movie will be Knives Out 3. While he didn’t spill any details about the story, we know that Craig will likely return as detective Benoit Blanc. According to the director, he has “a big cloud of ideas, but it hasn’t all snapped into focus yet. It’s exciting, though, and it’s very, very different from this one.”
Johnson expressed his excitement about returning to Knives Out and keeping Blanc’s mysteries flowing, stating:
“I’m making the next [Benoit Blanc movie] next because it’s the most exciting thing right now to me.That’s served me really well. I feel like any movie I’m making, I need to be making it because I can’t imagine doing anything else. I’m jumping into the next Benoit Blanc next because I can’t think about another story.”
Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery released on the streaming service Netflix in December last year to mostly great reviews, with many praising Craig’s returning performance as Blanc and the solid cast of actors who portray quite eccentric characters as well. The story is set on a billionaire’s private island where he invites a group of close acquaintances to participate in a faux murder mystery game. However, things go south and a murder does actually take place, leading the mistakenly invited Benoit Blanc on a chase to determine the killer.
Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery is available to watch on Netflix.
