Knuckles TV Series Gets Cast and Starts Filming in London

Paramount has announced that the Knuckles TV series, a spin-off to the ongoing live-action Sonic the Hedgehog movie franchise, has kicked off production.

Idris Elba is reprising his role as Knuckles the Echidna. He debuted in the previous Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movie. In addition, Paramount has also confirmed other stars who will join the live-action cast. Adam Pally, who played the police officer in both movies, will return and play a major role in the show.

The live-action Knuckles show will also star Edi Patterson (Knives Out), Julian Barratt (The Mighty Boosh), Scott Mescudi (Don’t Look Up) and UK comedian Ellie Taylor in recurring roles.

Guest stars include Rory McCann (The Hound from Game of Thrones) and Tika Sumpter who played Maddie in the previous two Sonic movies.

According to Paramount, the Knuckles live-action show takes place between the Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 movies. So it will pave the way for the upcoming third movie which doesn’t have much detail yet. It follows Knuckles as he “agrees to train Wade as his protégé and teach him the ways of the Echidna warrior”.

Variety reports that the Knuckles TV show has kicked off filming in London with Jeff Fowler as the director of the pilot episode. Fowler directed both the first two movies. He is expected to produce the entire series.

The show is expected to wrap up production by the end of 2023 and air in 2024 ahead of the third movie. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is then expected to release in cinemas on 20 December 2024. The movie is expected to introduce Shadow the Hedgehog into the series. If that is the case, we will likely see Shadow teased in the upcoming Knuckles TV show.

The original Sonic the Hedgehog movie was a huge success at the box office grossing $319 million worldwide. Its sequel surpassed this at $405 million. Paramount seems determined to milk the series for all its worth with multiple movies and TV show spin-offs.
