Suikoden I and II Remasters Konami Tokyo Game Show 2023

Konami Announces Suikoden I and II Remasters, Coming in 2023

At its recent Tokyo Game Show presentation, Konami made a surprise announcement by unveiling remasters of both Suikoden I and Suikoden II. The bundle will be coming to consoles and PC in 2023, adding new features, tweaking certain mechanics and overhauling the visuals of the game.

Suikoden I & II HD Remaster Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars will release for PS4, Xbox One, PC and Nintendo Switch sometime next year, though no release date was given. Both games launched in the 90s and became cult classic JRPGs over the years. The remastered collection will include a number of graphical, mechanical and quality of life improvements

All character portraits will be updated in HD. The original character designer, Junko Kawano, has redrawn all the characters for Suikoden I Remaster Gate Rune War. Additional features and updates include dialogue log, auto-battle, and double-speed battles. The sound design will also see a major overhaul, adding new audio for the river, wind, insects, and running footsteps.

Konami teased that a game “beloved by fans around the world” would be announced at Tokyo Game Show a week before the event, leading some to speculate that it would be one of the company’s flagships IPs like Silent Hill or Metal Gear Solid. This doesn’t appear to be the case anymore, despite plenty of reports suggesting that something is actually in the works for both of those franchises.

Suikoden launched on the original PlayStation in 1995 in Japan and later in North America in 1996, then Europe in 1997. Suikoden 2 followed in 1998 in Japan, North America in 1999 and Europe in 2000.

While many fans are still left wondering about the fate of Silent Hill, at least we have something to look forward to from Konami in the near future.
