Bethesda might be riding on the hype for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered at the moment, but it also has more in store for fans eager to play DOOM: The Dark Ages. Launching next month, developer id Software is ramping up the marketing for the bloody first-person shooter with another trailer that gives us more story details, new gameplay and all kinds of hell about to be unleashed – including a battle with a Cthulhu-like monster.
The latest trailer for DOOM: The Dark Ages puts the Doom Slayer front and centre as a force to be reckoned with. Again. This time, the Slayer is equipped with a chainsaw shield (simply called the Shield Saw) that can be thrown around like Captain America’s shield while ripping and tearing enemies. We get a few glimpses of the Shield Saw in action in the gameplay trailer.
However, DOOM: The Dark Ages is taking things a step further by letting players control a giant mech to fight larger demons with. If that isn’t heavy metal enough, we also get to ride an armoured dragon. The mech will likely be pitted against a new, terrifying tentacled creature clearly inspired by Cthulhu, which closes off the trailer. Safe to say, DOOM is back with a vengeance.
The description provided under the trailer reads:
“Developed by id Software, DOOM: The Dark Ages is the prequel to the critically acclaimed DOOM (2016) and DOOM Eternal that tells an epic cinematic story worthy of the DOOM Slayer’s legend. In this third installment of the modern DOOM series, players will step into the blood-stained boots of the DOOM Slayer, in this never-before-seen dark and sinister medieval war against Hell.”
DOOM: The Dark Ages launches on 15 May 2025 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. It will also launch day one on Xbox Game Pass. Watch the new trailer below:
