The latest update for The Sims 4 gave fans everything they ever wanted and a bit more. In addition to body hair, curved walls and customisable sexual orientations, a bug accidentally introduced incest into the game which allowed some Sims to suddenly show romantic interests in their family members.
This isn’t the first time that players have reported their Sims seemingly gaining romantic feelings for family members. In the base game of The Sims 4, incest is obviously forbidden, but players reported a glitch existing in the game for several years that wasn’t patched by EA. This latest update once again accidentally introduced incest through a strange bug brought about by some mechanical changes.
In the July update for The Sims 4, EA replaced the Whims feature to a Wants and Fears system, something previously seen in The Sims 2. Essentially, this would give Sims the ability to properly gauge the goals they want to achieve and the things they want to avoid. An issue in the implementation meant that certain Sims generated Wants that led to them showing romantic feelings for family members, be it siblings or even parents. Awkward.
Developers at EA are aware of the bizarre bug brought about by the Want system and are actively working on a fix for it.
Of course, this hasn’t stopped the community from bypassing the error through mods which add the ability to form relationships with family members, for some odd reason. However, the bug is just an unfortunate byproduct of the revamped system not working properly in the base game, so players will have to wait for a patch to fix the issue.
The Sims 4 is currently available for PS4, Xbox One and PC with a plethora of expansions to customise your experience.
