Layers of Fears Gets Psychedelic New Gameplay Trailer

Bloober Team appeared at Gamescom 2022 with a brand new gameplay trailer for its upcoming horror game, Layers of Fears. Serving as a compilation, remake and expansion of Layers of Fear and Layers of Fear 2, the third entry ramps up the horror factor. As the trailer teases, we’ll be coming across plenty of frightening, trippy and psychedelic encounters.

Developer Bloober Team describes Layers of Fears as “horror reimagined”, presenting a ‘psychedelic’ new take on its psychological horror roots. The visuals have been given plenty of care and attention as players navigate warping corridors and decaying rooms where objects seem to float and move at random.

The description for Layers of Fears provided in the latest trailer reads:

“Take a first look at The Final Note, a brand-new story chapter created exclusively for Layers of Fears, and featuring the Painter’s Wife as the playable protagonist. Discover the story of the family from her perspective to finally see the whole picture.

Layers of Fears is a first-person psychedelic horror chronicle focused on tense exploration and immersive storytelling. A new game that aims to unify the stories of Layers of Fear and Layers of Fear 2, while deepening the overarching narrative fans have come to know and love with original new chapters.”

The backbone of the Layers of Fear series is all about exploration and immersive storytelling so it’s good to see the formula retained in this reimagining. Layers of Fears is also being built in Unreal Engine 5 which explains why the visuals look so incredibly detailed. It was first revealed back in June during Summer Game Fest, but no release date was given other than an early 2023 window.

Layers of Fears releases in early 2023 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. Check out the new gameplay trailer below.
