In the biggest Nintendo Switch 2 leak to date, a Reddit user claims to have had hands-on with the unannounced console and shared information that we haven’t heard yet. I know what you’re thinking; “How legit is this leak?”. But this leak is actually sound. So much so that we think this information is the most accurate we have spotted so far.
According to the user “NextGenHandheld”, Nintendo’s new console is called the Nintendo Switch 2. The user says the logo and branding for the console are similar to the existing Switch but with a giant number “2” slapped into the box.
He says the branding on the console makes it clear – this is the Nintendo Switch 2.
The report claims that the Nintendo Switch 2 includes a number of new features. The magnetic Joy-Cons are real. These controllers simply clip into the side of the device and are attached with magnets. The right Joy-Con comes with a new “C” button, but we don’t know what this is for yet.
Both Joy-Cons feature a slightly rounded edge with a new trigger mould that provides slightly more support. There’s also an additional button that looks like a paddle trigger. The user says this button has multiple functions. One of which is to eject the magnetic clasp on the Joy-Cons so you can detach them. The button might also double up as an extra functional button on the device.
The leak claims that Nintendo has fixed drift on the Nintendo Switch 2 by using Hall effect analogue sticks. This will help with the deteriorating sensor found in the previous Joy-Cons.
As for the body of the console itself, it now has a metal U-shaped kickstand that is thinner than both previous Switch models. There are two USB-C ports on the device. One at the top and one at the bottom. This is likely done to charge the console with either port and eliminate the hassle of the bottom charger sticking out.
The unit has the same original Switch cartridge slots, which will support existing Switch games and Nintendo Switch 2 titles.
Speaking of charging, the Switch 2 dock doesn’t have any new additional ports. It comes with an HDMI out port, Ethernet, USB-C port for the power brick, and two USB-A ports similar to the current model.
The Nintendo Switch 2 dock has a rated power input of 60W. This is up from the 45W on the original console. However, the original Switch never went past 18W of actual power use.
Here’s a pretty accurate look at the console from an accessory brand that shared cases.

As for the display, battery life and internal specs, we don’t know much more than what has already leaked. This latest leak simply focuses on the design of the Switch 2. We know it has an 8-inch display but what panel it uses is unconfirmed yet. Sadly, don’t expect an OLED as we have heard reports that Nintendo opted for LCD instead.
We also don’t know how much storage space it comes with and where the MicroSD card slot is for upgrading the device’s storage capacity. We also don’t know what speakers it packs, if it has a microphone or what battery cell is installed.
Basically, we don’t know much about the technical stuff. However, the design of the Switch 2 and the Dock have all but been confirmed at this rate.
Nintendo is expected to announce the console in January ahead of its March 2025 release.
Here’s another video of a so-called “reference model”.
