Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver Remaster in Development – Rumour

It has been a long time since we had a new entry in the Legacy of Kain series. Sure, there was Nosgoth back in 2014 but that free-to-play multiplayer game was not really a Soul Reaver or Legacy of Kain game. Other than that, the last game was back in 2003 in the form of Legacy of Kain: Defiance. It seems that the series is about to be rebooted back to life in the form of a Soul Reaver remaster.

According to a reliable source and co-founder of the XboxEra Podcast @Shpeshal_Nick, there is a Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver remaster currently in development and the game is set for an announcement this year.

It is still not clear what Nick means when he says a “remaster” is coming our way. According to Nick, he confirmed with his source that the upcoming Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver is a remaster and not a remake. So we are either going to get a graphically polished old-school remaster or perhaps a built-from-the-ground-up Demon’s Souls-like package. It all depends on how his source defines the “remaster” term.

During the podcast Nick said:

“I believe it’s being announced this year. Maybe at PAX, or it could get saved for The Game Awards.”

If the Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver remaster is being announced at a PAX event then there is one taking place this month. There is also PAX Australia in October. If Nick’s source is correct about The Game Awards announcement then get ready to only see the game in December.

There is a lot to question about this information. While it is not the first time we have heard about this Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver remaster, we know virtually nothing about it. Who is developing this game? The series is owned by Crystal Dynamics. This means an announcement will surely come from a Square Enix Presents stream sometime in the future. However, we also have the possibility that the remaster has been outsourced to another developer.
