Lenovo Reveals ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 With Rollable OLED Display

Lenovo has announced the new ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 at CES 2025, a laptop with a rollable OLED display that once existed as a mere concept. It now seems to be a reality and launching this year at a less-than-humble price point of $3,500.

The idea behind Lenovo’s ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 is simple: it appears to be an ordinary laptop design at first glance but with the press of a button, a rollable OLED display extends upwards to create a 2000 x 2350 resolution or 16.7-inch display, which is enough to stack two 16 x 9 windows on top of each other. The motors in the laptop whirl and gets the flexible OLED display up in around 10 seconds. As far as productivity goes, it will certainly go far in helping you create or work on tall spreadsheets.

Shang and Lenovo product marketing’s Drupad Kandhi told The Verge that the ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 was thoroughly tested with at least 20,000 openings and closings of the rollable display.

Under the hood, the ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 boasts up to an Intel Core Ultra 7 Series 2 processor, 1TB SSD, and 32GB of DDR5x dual-channel RAM along with two Thunderbolt 4 ports and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

One downside to the ThinkBook is that it wasn’t really created to be used with external monitors. If you want to drag icons to the bottom section of the rollable display, you’ll have to use Lenovo’s built-in software to do so as it doesn’t allow users to do this manually. Unless rollable displays become a hot future trend and Windows implements a way for users to drag icons down, then we will simply have to use software to organise our desktop mess.

Lenovo says the ThinkBook Plus Gen 6 will launch sometime in Q1 2025 at a price point of $3,499. There’s no word if the laptop will be available in South Africa.
