Back in January, Lies of P publisher Neowiz confirmed that a sequel was moving forward for last year’s Soulslike action RPG. We know that it will be built using Unreal Engine 5 but beyond that, details are scarce about the ambitious follow-up. A new report now claims that the sequel might be going open-world.
Lies of P, which was heavily inspired by Bloodborne and other Soulslike titles from developer From Software, largely featured interconnected areas and zones that the player could explore but it was never designed to be fully open-world. As reported by Tech4Gamers, a new job listing at Neowiz is seeking a Field Level Designer to work on Lies of P‘s sequel. One of the applicant’s requirements mentions that they must have “extensive experience playing open-world games.”
The job description suggests that Neowiz Games might be leaning the Lies of P sequel towards an open-world setting, which would be interesting as the gothic Victorian style of its world has never really been attempted before in open-world format. This opens up a bunch of possibilities for where the sequel could go and how Neowiz could further elaborate on the Soulslike formula it had already nailed down in the first game.
Since the first game was a considerable success, amassing over 7 million players worldwide which was no doubt boosted by its inclusion on Xbox Game Pass, a sequel is a no-brainer at this point.
The official description for Lies of P reads:
“You are a puppet created by Geppetto who’s caught in a web of lies with unimaginable monsters and untrustworthy figures standing between you and the events that have befallen the world of Lies of P. You are awakened by a mysterious voice that guides you through the plagued city of Krat – a once lively place that has been poisoned by madness and bloodlust. In our soulslike, you must adapt yourself and your weapons to face untold horrors, untangle the unfathomable secrets of the city’s elites and choose whether to confront predicaments with the truth or weave lies to overcome them on the journey to find yourself.”
Lies of P is available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
