Swamp Thing Logan Director James Mangold

Logan Director in Talks to Direct DC’s Swamp Thing Movie

A day after James Gunn and Peter Safran revealed a new slate of DC Universe projects, filmmaker James Mangold is now apparently in talks to direct the announced Swamp Thing movie. Mangold is best known for directing 2017’s Logan as well as the upcoming Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.

Swamp Thing was one of the five movies out of ten overall projects that Gunn and Safran announced this week as part of its new DC Universe plans. The Swamp Thing movie will cap off the new slate, which is titled Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Mangold will write and direct the movie, though it hasn’t officially been announced yet.

Even before the report came out, Mangold teased his involvement in the project. He recently tweeted out some artwork of Swamp Thing, which was then retweeted by Gunn. Safe to say that Mangold might be in on the movie, though we’ll have to wait for Warner Bros. and Gunn to confirm it.

Apart from writing and directing Logan which earned him a screenplay Oscar nomination, Mangold’s other works also include 3:10 to Yuma, Walk the Line and The Wolverine, among others. If Mangold does land the job, then there’s hope that Swamp Thing will turn out to be a fantastic movie. Gunn and Safran seem to be investing quite a lot in their plans to revamp the DC cinematic universe after Warner Bros. and DC’s failed attempts.

Gary Dauberman and Mark Verheiden developed a Swamp Thing live-action television series back in 2019. While it received decent reviews, the show was never picked up for a second season and mostly fell off the radar after DC’s extended universe plans fell began to fall through.
