New Mafia Game Development 2K Games Hangar 13

Mafia 4 is Reportedly in Pre-Production Stages

Mafia 4 is reportedly in the pre-production stages at developer Hangar 13 according to a new LinkedIn job listing description. Last year, Hangar 13 received multiple layoffs but that hasn’t stopped the development on a new, unannounced game currently in the works. The game will use Unreal Engine 5 and seemingly get a multi-platform release, though many fans already figured out that this game is the next Mafia.

As pieced together by a thread on Reddit, Hangar 13’s latest job description posted to LinkedIn seeks a tools engineer with experience in creating and maintaining tools “for an unannounced multi-platform game currently in pre-production using Unreal Engine 5.”  According to the Bloomberg article posted in May 2022, Hangar 13’s layoffs saw a major game get cancelled but stated that a new Mafia game, codenamed Nero, was still in development along with another unannounced tennis game.

From what we’ve gathered on the information so far, Mafia 4 is highly likely to be in development though only in the pre-production stages, meaning it will still be a while before it releases as it still needs to enter full production. It will be developed in Unreal Engine 5 and aims to launch on multiple platforms.

Mafia 3 originally launched in 2016 for PS4, Xbox One and PC to mixed reviews. Some outlets praised the strong storytelling but called the visuals flat and open-world gameplay tedious. Despite the divisive reception, it managed to become a commercial success and sell over seven million copies worldwide across all platforms. There’s clearly a demand for more Mafia games which led to the excellent remakes of the original Mafia and Mafia 2.

Details are still unknown about Mafia 4 including the story, characters and where it will all take place. If the game is only in the pre-production phases then we’ll only know more details when Hangar 13 and publisher Take-Two Interactive are ready to reveal them.
