This is what we waited for! The first gameplay for the upcoming Mafia: Definitive Edition has arrived. The 15-minute gameplay video makes one thing clear; this is not your average remaster. Instead, Mafia: Definitive Edition is a complete remake of the original game. The developers behind the game, Hanger 13 explains how they tackled the remake from the ground up. This includes re-shooting all the cinematics with new actors and facial recognition, rebuilding the city with new landmarks and even reworking the engine completely.

With all the new changes, Mafia: Definitive Edition still includes the original story. It follows the tale of Tommy Angelo after he finds himself stuck between helping two members of the Salieri family – Paulie and Sam escape an ambush by the Morello family. The game spans eight years during the 1930s and is set in a fictional US city called Lost Heaven.
Hanger 13 walks you through the gameplay in the video down below. The developer explains how they managed to improve on some of the core mechanics of the game including shooting and driving. There are new weapons and even new vehicles including bikes which the player can now ride throughout the game.
The rest of the video is a mission walkthrough. The player explores a stormy farmland amidst the dark of the night. It looks fantastic as weather effects change the gameplay making it hard to see in the distance. We then have the gunplay which Hanger 13 explains is harder than before. Unlike Mafia III where players took the role of a veteran, Tommy is somewhat unskilled so each gunfight will feel like a life and death situation. Players need to decide carefully where to take cover and when to shoot.
Check out the complete trailer down below. The game is due out on 25 September 2020 for PS4, Xbox One and PC. Users who purchase part of the current trilogy will unlock a discount when buying the game. You can pre-purchase it now on Steam for only R169… Wait, that does not sound right…
