Mafia The Old Country Announced 2025 The Godfather

Mafia: The Old Country Announced For 2025 – Inspired by Mob Movies

2K Games and developer Hangar 13 unveiled Mafia: The Old Country, a new chapter in its long-running Mafia franchise during Gamescom Opening Night Live 2024. The game is set to launch sometime in 2025 and it’s apparently inspired by mob movies such as The Godfather.

Mafia: The Old Country will recount the origins of the Sicilian mafia during the early 1900s. The reveal trailer’s imagery has since been compared to The Godfather, which seems to be what Hangar 13 is drawing the most inspiration from stylistically. Beyond that, there are very few details available about the game so we’ll have to wait a while for more information.

“Fight to survive in this dangerous and unforgiving era, with action brought to life by the authentic realism and rich storytelling that the critically acclaimed Mafia series is known for,” reads the game’s official description provided with the announcement trailer.

Hangar 13 president Nick Baynes described Mafia: The Old Country:

“What you just saw is the first early look at Mafia: The Old Country, a thrilling story set in 1900s Sicily during the origins of the Mafia. We’re going back to the roots of what fans love about the Mafia franchise, crafting a deep linear narrative, with that classic mob movie feeling.”

A report from back in April 2023 claimed that the next Mafia game would have multiplayer and stealth elements, though this hasn’t been confirmed yet by Hangar 13. If this is accurate, then Mafia: The Old Country could be the shake-up that the franchise needs, especially after Mafia 3 mostly failed to connect with long-time fans.

If you’re a newcomer to the franchise, Mafia: Definitive Edition is currently available to play on Xbox Game Pass. Mafia 2: Definitive Edition and Mafia 3 frequently go on sale on most platforms too.

Mafia: The Old Country releases in 2025 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. Watch the announcement trailer below:
