Margot Robbie Wants Other Actresses to Play Harley Quinn

Actress Margot Robbie says she wants to pass the role of Harley Quinn onto other actresses. Robbie is known for portraying DC’s iconic character in numerous movies including 2016’s Suicide Squad, Birds of Prey and The Suicide Squad. However, it seems like the actress might be ready to pass the mantle onto someone else.

During an interview with Variety, Margot Robbie talked about Lady Gaga playing Harley Quinn in the upcoming Joker: Folie a Deux. Robbie explained that she always wanted other actresses to play the character, keen on seeing what other talents bring to the role. While she hasn’t completely ruled out the possibility of returning to play Harley Quinn for future DC projects, there’s a good chance that other actresses might step up to portray the character down the road.

Robbie stated in the interview:

“I always wanted Harley to be a character that would get passed on to other actresses to play, the way there are so many iconic male characters. Harley’s so fun and can go in so many different directions. You put her in someone else’s hands, and it’s like, ‘What are they going to do with her?’ The options are endless.”

Robbie was first cast as Harley Quinn in 2016’s Suicide Squad. Despite the movie’s polarising reviews, Robbie’s performance was praised by fans and critics as a highly accurate portrayal of the comic book character. She went on to appear as Harley Quinn in her standalone movie, Birds of Prey, and the James Gunn-directed The Suicide Squad. Since Gunn is rebooting the DC cinematic universe, it’s unclear if Robbie will continue to reprise her role as the character in future movies.

Robbie went on to star in numerous movies outside of DC including last year’s Barbie, The Wolf of Wall Street, Babylon and many more projects.
