Mario Gets Slapped Around by Donkey Kong in The New Super Mario Bro Movie Trailer

Nintendo has given fans a second look at The Super Mario Bros Movie in an awesome new trailer. The trailer also reveals even more characters in the film which we didn’t get to see in the original trailer from early October. We get our first glimpse of Donkey Kong and Princess Peach.

Sadly, much of the trailer’s excitement was ruined before Nintendo was able to share it. Yesterday, a load of promotional materials were leaked online that showed off Princess Peach for the first time. So Nintendo’s anticipated reveal was kinda underwhelming.

Princess Peach looks like Princess Peach… well sort of. She has all the iconic features but the creators of the film have changed her face slightly. I am not sure if this was to deviate away from the video game series, which has always had the same Peach, or perhaps they wanted to give her some resemblance to her voice actress, Anya Taylor-Joy.

There’s also Donkey Kong’s debut in the new trailer too which doesn’t disappoint. He immediately grabs your attention by slapping Mario around in an arena. He really doesn’t need an introduction. He is a giant ape in the game and a giant ape in the film. It works.

Regardless of the minor changes to the characters, The Super Mario Bros Movie is looking spectacular. Everything looks incredible and there’s clearly been a lot of love and attention put into the entire project. So far, it looks like it is going to be a historical film that stays true to the magical worlds of Super Mario.

Check out the trailer below. The Super Mario Bros Movie is set to launch on 7 April 2023.
