Nintendo has announced that it will be hosting an entire Nintendo Direct event on Thursday, 6 October dedicated to the upcoming Super Mario movie. The first poster was revealed yesterday shortly before the announcement, showing Mario looking out at the Mushroom Kingdom. However, while Mario’s back is turned in the poster preventing us from getting a good look at his design, a render of the character has now leaked thanks to a McDonald’s promo.

While we’ll have to wait until tomorrow to get a good look at Mario in all his glory, a render of his design has leaked from an unlikely source: a McDonald’s employee in a Discord server. The render is shown in what appears to be a pamphlet for the fast food chain, which you can have a look at below:
Mario’s design is very faithful to its video game counterpart, so that’s a bit of good news. Fans are mostly celebrating this, especially after the infamous reveal of Sonic’s original nightmare-inducing design from the first Sonic the Hedgehog movie – a backlash so heavy, it made Paramount Pictures eventually redesign Sonic to be more faithful to the video games.
If you’d like to catch the first trailer for the upcoming Super Mario movie as well plenty of first details about the anticipated animation, make sure you tune into the Nintendo Direct on 6 October at 4:05 pm EDT/1:05 pm PDT or 10:05 pm SAST.
