Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, the upcoming action-adventure game from Uncharted veteran Amy Hennig, has landed a publisher. Plaion (formerly Koch Media), the publisher behind games like STALKER 2: Heart of Chornobyl, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 and Dead Island 2, will handle the publishing duties on the upcoming Marvel game.
Prior to this announcement, it wasn’t known who would be publishing Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, which comes from developer Skydance New Media and director Amy Hennig. A global publishing partnership has now been announced between Plaion and Skydance. Co-president Julian Beak says, “Plaion is the perfect publishing partner for the multiplatform, worldwide release of Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra.”
He continued, “For our studio’s debut title, we’re crafting an original Marvel story directed by Amy Hennig. We’re thrilled to have found a global publisher that shares our ambitious vision for the project.”
Plaion CEO Klemens Kundratitz added:
“We are proud to partner with Skydance Games and industry legend Amy Hennig on what is one of the most anticipated AAA games currently in development. This partnership between two ambitious independent companies is a testament to Plaion’s ongoing mission to become a global force in videogame publishing.”
While the name ‘Plaion’ might seem relatively new in the gaming world, the publisher actually has a long history of games and studios under its former title, Koch Media. Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra might be one of the most ambitious games under Plaion’s label so far and it’s a big move for the company.
Players will be able to control an ensemble of four characters: Captain America, Black Panther, Howling Commandos member Gabriel Jones and Nanali, the leader of the Wakandan Spy Network. It will be written and directed by Hennig, who previously worked at Naughty Dog on the first three Uncharted games (and to some extent, Uncharted 4 as well) before parting ways with Sony’s studio.
