Marvel Phase 4 Film and Television Plans Announced Including Black Widow and Blade

Marvel Studios revealed its upcoming Phase 4 slate of film and television projects set to roll out over the next few years. The slate includes 10 movies and Disney+ series.

The announcement was made at San Deigo Comic Con where Marvel hosted a panel in regards to the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The slate of content will kick off next year with Black Widow in May followed by The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and Eternals releasing in the same year.

2021 is rather packed with Shang-Chi: and the Legend of Ten Rings, Wanda Vision (Disney+), Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Loki (Disney+), What If…? (Disney+), Hawkeye (Disney+) and Thor: Love and Thunder starring female Thor played by Natalie Portman.

Marvel President Kein Feige also touched on the inclusion of X-Men, and The Fantastic Four being part of Phase 4 in the coming years. He also revealed that Blade will be releasing starring Mahershala Ali sometime in 2020.

So in theory, Marvel only has six confirmed films planned for cinema at the moment with the rest of the Phase 4 content releasing on its partner streaming platform, Disney+ over the next few years. We are not sure if Blade, X-Men, and The Fantastic Four will release on Disney+ or in cinemas yet.

Marvel’s upcoming films take different directions in the series and are moving away from the original “Avengers” plot.

The Eternals is about a group of beings who use their powers and skills to protect humans in the future. Shang-Chi follows the story of comic book character Shang-Chi as he tries to take down his father’s criminal empire. The film will also feature Iron Man 3’s twist villain, The Mandarin.

As for the Disney+ shows, the Marvel team went into details saying these will lead right into the cinema films so it will be important for one to watch them to experience the rollout correctly. Wanda Vision, for example, will lead directly into the new Doctor Strange.

As for the new show titled “What If…?”, it is a non-canon animated series that will focus on alternate versions of past events in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. For example, what happens if Loki found the Hammer of Thor?

But even with some insight into the future of the Marvel series, we have to wonder where the films will take us. Will they lead into an epic finale like the Avengers and what about Spider-Man: Far From Home? How does the film tie into all of this? Marvel and Disney are planned to reveal even more at the D23 conference on 23 August 2019.
