Marvel’s Blade Loses Yet Another Director

Marvel Studios is having a tough time holding a director for the upcoming MCU Blade movie as it has lost yet another director. This time, apparently director Yann Demange, who was set to direct Blade after Bassam Tariq stepped away from the project back in 2022, will no longer be attached to the movie.

As reported by The Wrap, Yann Demange is no longer set to direct Blade. No reason was given for his departure from the project but it’s claimed that he parted ways with Marvel Studios amicably. This marks the second director to leave Blade as Bassam Tariq previously left the director’s chair back in 2022.

According to The Wrap, Marvel Studios is more interested in getting Blade right than simply rushing it out the door. Star Mahershala Ali is still involved in the movie and set to play the titular vampire slayer, as far as we know. Beyond that, no other details can be nailed down about the MCU movie. Thor Ragnarok and Black Widow writer Eric Pearson is now currently working on the script, taking over writing duties from other writers in the past including Michael Starrbury, Nic Pizzolatto and Michael Green.

Last year, Blade received an R-rating with a budget of under $100 million, though reports of a very troubled production also surfaced. Since much has seemingly changed, it’s hard to tell if Marvel Studios will stick with the R-rating or take a different approach. A lot is riding on Deadpool and Wolverine, the first official R-rated movie in the MCU, to do well this summer since it could dictate whether Marvel Studios and Disney invest more heavily into mature projects going forward.

Marvel’s Blade will release on 7 November 2025.
