PlayStation and developer Insomniac Games announced Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 last year through a teaser trailer but we haven’t seen any concrete gameplay yet of the anticipated superhero sequel. That might all change soon according to a new report, which states that some first gameplay will arrive, presumably for the rumoured September PlayStation showcase.
Entertainment media data analyst Millie A, who accurately leaked Marvel’s Wolverine before its announcement, revealed in a recent tweet that Sony were gearing up to showcase the first gameplay for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 fairly soon. In the same tweet, she mentions that the game was “exceeding expectations” for Marvel higher-ups, while another employee apparently said that the gameplay had “fluidity” and “visual punch.”

As for when we can expect this gameplay to be shown, Millie A didn’t give any exact time. However, it’s safe to assume that gameplay might be shown at the rumoured PlayStation showcase that is expected to happen this month. For the last few years, PlayStation has hosted a bigger showcase every September highlighting its biggest upcoming titles and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 fits the bill.
Insomniac Games has pinned a release window of 2023 for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and with the next year fast approaching, the timing seems right for our first look at gameplay. PlayStation reportedly has several unannounced games in the works at its studios, so we might get a glimpse of the future of PS5 at this event.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is the sequel to 2018’s Marvel’s Spider-Man and follows both Peter Parker and Miles Morales as they confront a deadly new threat in Venom. In addition to the sequel, Insomniac Games is also working on Marvel’s Wolverine, though that might be a lot further out from release.
In related news, PlayStation is ramping up the marketing for God of War Ragnarok through a few gameplay teases and a new Rick and Morty crossover promotional video. We’ll likely see a lengthier gameplay dive if the September PlayStation showcase happens. As with all rumours, take this with a pinch of salt.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is currently in development exclusively for PS5.
