Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 from Insomniac Games is set to launch later this year but we haven’t seen anything concrete from the game yet apart from the reveal trailer and other minor details. Another interesting bit of information was revealed by the developer that might hint at the sequel featuring new “very cool” dialogue technology, though it didn’t go into detail about what that technology actually does for now.
Speaking during a livestream session on Insomniac Games’ Twitch channel, the studio’s lead engine programmer Elan Ruskin revealed that the studio’s next game, likely both Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Marvel’s Wolverine, will feature new dialogue technology, whatever that means. We’ll probably see (or hear) this in action when we get another closer look at the full game but speculation borders on curiosity to making fun of the vague tech.

“Insomniac have done it, they have invented Dialogue 2,” said one Reddit user under the report’s thread. Another user joked, “Clearly using AI to replicate the voice of the ‘MY BALLOOON’ kid from the original Spider-Man 2 and have it voice every NPC.”
Of all the cool features that could be introduced in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, we’re unfortunately left in the dark about how Insomniac Games exactly plans to innovate on dialogue in gaming, especially for a Spider-Man game. One comment pointed out that Insomniac Games might’ve found a way to create procedurally generated dialogue and make it sound natural to make up for the hundreds, if not thousands of NPCs that you could encounter in the game.
We’ll surely know more information closer to the game’s launch later this year. According to a previous report, PlayStation is planning to host a massive showcase sometime before E3 2023 that could feature Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 plus a number of other anticipated exclusives and third-party titles.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is currently in development for PS5.
