Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Might Use Rift Apart’s ‘World Shifting’ Feature

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 from Insomniac Games is currently still in development with rumoured plans to launch in late 2023. While we don’t know much about the game beyond its initial reveal trailer, some new information has appeared online that could suggest it will use the ‘world shifting’ feature previously seen in another Insomniac title, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.

Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart launched in 2021 to positive reviews with many praising its inventive world shifting feature, allowing players to seamlessly hop between dimensions and entire zones without loading screens. Insomniac Games might be tweaking this mechanic for its upcoming superhero game, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which implies that the story could have some multiverse elements.

According to HipHopGamer, who previously leaked the PS5 DualSense haptic feedback and Kratos joining Mortal Kombat, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will feature and build upon the world shifting from Rift Apart in some capacity. The leaker claims that the gameplay will be “the most open and fluid experience you will see so far this generation.”

As with all rumours, take this with a pinch of salt. According to many, HipHopGamer hasn’t had the most reliable or accurate track record lately. However, it’s also entirely possible that Insomniac Games would want to work its novel world shifting feature into Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, especially given the success of Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. This doesn’t mean we’ll see the multiverse pop up in the game either so the world shifting could be used for other purposes.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is the long-awaited sequel to 2018’s Marvel’s Spider-Man that reunites Peter Parker with Miles Morales. The reveal trailer suggests that the game’s primary antagonist will be the symbiote and lethal protector, Venom, though we can surely expect to see more familiar villains make an appearance too.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is currently in development and will launch exclusively on PS5.
