PlayStation’s has no shortage of exciting exclusives releasing this year, from Final Fantasy XVI to Stellar Blade. However, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 sits at the top of most anticipated lists and for a good reason. Given the enormous success of the first game and its standalone adventure, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, a sequel was inevitable. While we’re still left without a release date, Peter Parker voice actor Yuri Lowenthal says “a massive game” is on its way.
During an interview with Comic Book Movie, Lowenthal spoke a bit about Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 but stopped short of offering any major details. “I’ve still got a little bit to do. It’s a massive game so I’m still doing a little bit of work,” said Lowenthal when asked about the progress of the game.

Lowenthal describes the game as “massive” which it certainly earns. Next to The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 might be the most anticipated release of the year and easily the biggest PlayStation game to look forward to in 2023. Now whether he means massive as in anticipated, or massive as in the scope and scale of the project is unclear, but it’s probably a bit of both.
Sequels have the opportunity to outdo predecessors in several ways including going bigger on concepts introduced before. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 may offer players a bigger sandbox to explore, though it’s hard to imagine how insane the scale will be considering that Marvel’s Spider-Man already did a great job of recreating Manhattan. The story might also have plenty of surprises in store for us as both Peter and Miles Morales will team up to face off against one of comic book’s most iconic villains, Venom.
PlayStation assured players that the game is still on track to launch this year, but we’ll have to be patient for news to arrive as an Insomniac Games writer accidentally let slip that the game will launch in fall 2023. Lowenthal seems to agree as in the same interview, he revealed that Insomniac Games is “confident” about the launch window:
“I know they’re confident about their release date and Insomniac has always been good about that. Obviously, I can’t really talk about the game much, but I will tell you that it’s astonishing.”
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is currently in development for PS5.
