Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, the highly anticipated open world superhero game from Insomniac Games, is set to launch on PS5 tomorrow. Ahead of its release, the developer has urged players to download the day one patch which includes a number of notable fixes to make your experience much smoother. However, as far as key features go, the game will not include a New Game Plus mode or a Mission Replay option.
Insomniac Games employee James Stevenson took to Twitter to respond to some fan questions, one of which asks if there will be a New Game Plus or Mission Replay option available for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 at launch. Stevenson responded by stating that the team is working on a future update for those features but they won’t be available day one in the game. This is similar to God of War Ragnarok which only added a New Game Plus mode in an update a few months after launch.
Naturally, some fans didn’t take the news kindly and stated that those features were present in the first game. Stevenson quickly corrected that by saying that New Game Plus was only added to the first Marvel’s Spider-Man six weeks after launch.
NG+ was not a Day 1 feature for the original game. We added New Game+ about 6 weeks after launch

Another feature that’s seemingly left out of the game on release is the ability to change the day/night weather cycle – a feature that was present in the first game at launch. Stevenson simply said that game development isn’t easy, though it’s likely that Insomniac Games will add all of these features to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 at some point via updates.
In related news, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 released to glowing reviews and became Insomniac’s highest-rated game in nearly 20 years, scoring a 91 average score on Metacritic and OpenCritic based on over 100 reviews from media outlets. The last game from the developer to score that high was 2004’s Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal. Make sure you read our full review right here too.
