Insomniac Games says the upcoming Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales will include a 4K 60FPS mode on PS5. The developer shared the news on Twitter and fans rejoiced. Who would not want a 4K 60FPS game? Especially something as awesome looking as the new Spider-Man? However, it brought up more questions than answers. If there’s a 4K 60FPS mode then what other modes does the game include?

Usually, most current-gen games offer two modes. There’s a 1080p 60FPS mode or a 4K 30FPS one. This suggests the 4K 60FPS mode is the “Performance Mode”. It also suggests the mode may not be a stable 60FPS as the game may offer a 1080p 60FPS stable solution at the same time. Perhaps there’s a 4K enhanced version that increases the visuals while lowering the frames and increasing the resolution. You see! So many questions.

It is hard to imagine what graphical modes the upcoming Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales will offer at launch. We don’t know what Sony is targeting in terms of FPS and resolution for the PS5. We know the console includes a super-fast SSD but in terms of the SoC, we don’t know what sort of bottlenecks are in place which may prevent games from running at higher FPS and resolutions.
All I know is that it would be a big downer for many if next-gen arrives and gamers are still stuck playing games in at 30FPS. Sure, there will be cases where this will be the norm but I do believe Sony should push for 60FPS as much as possible.
