Amazon announced that a Mass Effect TV series is now in early pre-production at the company. The series will follow BioWare’s popular space RPG and be produced at Amazon MGM Studios. According to Variety, F9: The Fast Saga writer Daniel Casey has signed on to write the show alongside BioWare writer Mike Gamble and Ari Arad.
The news arrived on N7 Day (7 November) which is a semi-official, fan-created holiday that celebrates all things Mass Effect. BioWare did confirm that this year’s N7 Day would not come with any major announcements and the studio wasn’t joking. While the TV series is good news, BioWare didn’t provide any update on the new Mass Effect game which has been in development since 2020.
Apart from Amazon confirming the show and some of the people behind the project, there’s virtually nothing else we know about it at the moment. It is still in very early production so we will unlikely see updates for a while. The report from Variety says the show has yet to kick off writing so it is indeed still in the early stages of pre-production. However, the overall plot details for the show have already been confirmed but are being kept under wraps.
BioWare did confirm earlier this week that the studio has now shifted focus to Mass Effect after releasing Dragon Age: The Veilguard in October. The studio claimed that no DLC was planned for the fantasy RPG and most of the staff on the game have moved to Mass Effect.
Given the reputation of Mass Effect Andromeda, BioWare has a lot to prove to fans. We don’t know when we’ll see the next game but hopefully, there’s an update before the next N7 Day.
