Medal of Honor is one of those iconic FPS franchises (with well over a dozen games) that just faded away and we haven’t seen a new game in nearly a decade, as Warfighter released all the way back in 2010 to some luke-warm reception. Now, a new entry in the franchise has finally been announced by Respawn Entertainment and Oculus Studios and unless you own an Oculus Rift VR headset, then you might be very disappointed. Yes, Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond is a VR title and so far, only Oculus Rift has been confirmed as a platform.

Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond was revealed at Oculus Connect 6 by Respawn Entertainment and Oculus Studios. The game is set during World War 2 and you will be able to step into the boots of an agent in the Office of Strategic Services. Your goal will be to sabotage Nazi bases, aid the French Resistance and more in a singleplayer campaign featuring sea, land and air battles.
There will also be some multiplayer modes but further details about that haven’t been revealed. What we do know is that many fans of the iconic Medal of Honor franchise won’t be able to experience it since, at the time of writing, only Oculus Rift has been confirmed as a platform. It is a bit disappointing that it is a VR title instead of having both a VR mode and a standard mode.
The Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond description reads:
[perfectpullquote align=”full” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”#85E7E9″ class=”” size=”20″] Coming in 2020 from Respawn Entertainment and Oculus Studios. Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond brings the historic battlefields of World War II back to the forefront for an epic AAA experience like no other. You’ll play as an Allied agent of the Office of Strategic Services (OSS), tasked with infiltrating, outgunning, and outsmarting the Nazi war machine.
As you complete your tour of duty across Europe, you’ll collaborate with the French Resistance, working to sabotage Nazi operations from behind enemy lines. In addition to both a full narrative campaign and multiplayer modes, Medal of Honor: Above and Beyond includes a unique story gallery, letting you sit with WWII veterans and survivors to hear their stories while witnessing first-hand the events and locations that have shaped our history. It is a bit disappointing that it is a VR title instead of having both a VR mode and a standard mode. At the time of writing, no release date has been revealed but the game is slated to release sometime next year.
