Sony held its big PlayStation Showcase last night to a few neat surprises but for many eager fans, wishes (and rumours) came true as the remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater was officially announced. In addition to the remake’s announcement, PlayStation and Konami also confirmed that a remaster collection of the first three original Metal Gear Solid games will be launching sometime in autumn 2023.
The Metal Gear Solid 3 remake officially goes by the title Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater (or Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater). The reveal was accompanied by an excellent CGI trailer that built up to the reveal of Snake, though no gameplay was shown nor a release date. The remake will release on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.

Konami released a statement talking about the upcoming Metal Gear Solid projects, calling the remake a “faithful” attempt to recapture the original’s flare:
“We are remaking Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, one of the most beloved instalments of the Metal Gear series, revealing the origin story of Snake, as Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater. We are working hard for Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater to be a faithful recreation of the original story and game design, while evolving the gameplay with stunning visuals and a seamless user experience.”
Metal Gear Solid fans can also look forward to the remastered collection of the first three games in the series – Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater – which will be coming later this year. The collection is billed as “Volume 1” meaning more remasters are potentially on the way. Konami states:
“Simultaneously, we will deliver the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection series, the most complete compilation that celebrates the 35th anniversary of the series. The Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection allows fans to play the games as they were, as first released on the latest platforms.”
While the PlayStation Showcase was short on other big Konami reveals such as Castlevania, it’s good to know that fans can enjoy classic Metal Gear Solid on modern consoles. Check out the reveal trailer for the Snake Eater remake below:
