Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater Remake Remaster Collection

Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake Development Team Revealed

Last week during the PlayStation Showcase, Sony officially unveiled the long-rumoured remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, now titled as Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. The impressive CGI announcement trailer didn’t offer much information about the game including the developers behind the ambitious project. We now have confirmation from Konami itself about which team will be working on the remake.

According to Konami, the development team for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater consists of Konami’s own internal team in collaboration with Virtous, the studio that was originally rumoured to be developing the remake. The official Metal Gear Solid Twitter account later clarified the information and confirmed the news.

Virtous’ previous works include the ports of Final Fantasy X/X-2 for PS3 and PS Vita, the NieR Automata Nintendo Switch port and the Batman: Return to Arkham port for PS4. Virtuos also assisted Bluepoint Games with the development of the Demon’s Souls remake on PS5. It might seem like the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake is in safe hands, though it’s unclear if Konami’s internal development team has more say in the final product.

Alongside the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake announcement, Konami also announced Vol. 1 of the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection which bundles the first three MGS games in one remastered package. The ports of Metal Gear Solid 2 and 3 in this collection are based on the HD Collections versions which were developed by Bluepoint Games for the PS3 and Xbox 360. It’s currently unknown if Bluepoint returned to work on the Master Collection or if Virtuos is also working on it.

Unfortunately, no release date was announced for either project. In the case of the Master Collection, we won’t be waiting long as it’s expected to launch later this year. Some rumours claim that the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake is much further out from release, though, speculating that it will only launch sometime in 2024.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is currently in development for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
