Metal Gear Solid Legacy Video Fails to Mention Hideo Kojima

Konami recently uploaded part one of its Metal Gear Solid Legacy series which documents the creation of the legendary Metal Gear Solid franchise, all narrated by Solid Snake’s voice actor, David Hayter. Throughout the six-minute video, though, the documentary never once mentions Hideo Kojima, the creator of the franchise.

Solid Snake voice actor David Hayter narrates the Metal Gear Solid Legacy video which goes into some detail about the early days of the franchise, its creation and how it has evolved over the years. Later parts are expected to cover the evolution of the series leading up to the release of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and, we assume, Metal Gear Survive (if Konami is brave enough).

That said, the video fails to mention Hideo Kojima once, who was arguably the most crucial aspect in the franchise’s creation. Of course, this is expected after Konami had a falling out with the game creator in 2015, leading to his name being wiped off all the promotional material for Metal Gear Solid V and the series as a whole (as well as the tragic cancellation of Silent Hills). Kojima’s name also isn’t headllined in the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1, for what it’s worth.

Kojima parted ways with Konami and soon formed his own studio, Kojima Productions, back in 2016. The developer’s first game, Death Stranding, launched in 2019. As of writing, Kojima Productions is working on at least three projects including the horror game OD, an untitled Xbox Cloud project and Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, which is set to release sometime in 2025.

Looking ahead, Hideo Kojima also announced at a PlayStation event in February that he was working on a next-gen action espionage game, marking his return to the genre. Given the number of projects under the company’s belt right now, the untitled action espionage game (codenamed PHYSINT) is only expected to launch on PS6.
