Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 Resolution and Framerate Revealed

Konami has officially revealed the resolution and framerate for the upcoming Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 on each system. The bundle remasters the first three legendary Metal Gear Solid games from Hideo Kojima, which is the good news. The bad news is that the Master Collection Vol. 1 won’t support 4K on any platform.

Konami recently sent a clarification to IGN discussing the resolution and framerate for Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1. The bundle has a 1080p/60FPS “target” on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC though it won’t offer 4K support. For the Nintendo Switch, Konami mentioned that it will run at 720p/30FPS in handheld mode and 1080p/30FPS in docked mode.

Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 does contain some new content but for the most part, it’s a pretty standard port of the Metal Gear Solid HD Collection from 2012 which was handled by Bluepoint Games. This might be disappointing news for fans who were expecting a more technically impressive remastered collection of the older games, especially with new hardware available. On the bright side, the bundle is bringing back the first PS1 game which, up to this point, wasn’t widely available on modern systems unless you emulated it.

In related news, the Master Collection isn’t the only new exciting revival of Konami’s IP. Earlier this year, Konami revealed that it would be remaking Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater with its internal team and Virtuos. We only have a CGI announcement trailer to go on, though it could possibly target a 2024 release.

The existence of “Vol. 1” of the Master Collection means that fans can look forward to a second volume too. According to reports, Vol. 2 will feature a remaster of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. This is great news because there’s currently no way to play the fourth (and final installment on the timeline) unless you own a PS3.

Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 launches on 24 October 2023 for PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch and PC.
