A new PlayStation State of Play event is scheduled to take place later today and rumours are once again flying around the internet about what could possibly be announced. While Sony did confirm that the focus will be on PS VR2 and a lengthy gameplay showcase for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, other third-party games will also be featured. Ahead of the event, a few sources seem to imply that something related to Metal Gear Solid will be announced too.
A recent tweet from Video Games Chronicle journalist Andy Robinson responded to a fan asking about when we can expect a Metal Gear Solid Collection. Robinson simply told fans to check out his podcast today, which also happens to be the day that the State of Play is taking place. GameRanx curiously uploaded an article three weeks ago that stated a Metal Gear Solid Collection was coming to Steam, according to its sources.

It all seems quite coincidental, especially with the State of Play happening later today (or tonight, depending on where you are in the world). These rumours aren’t exactly unfounded either as back in January, Metal Gear Rising‘s Raiden voice actor Quinton Flynn told fans to “Stay tuned for things to be announced in the coming weeks.” Whether he meant something related to the past Metal Gear Rising 10th anniversary event or something completely different is anyone’s guess.
Rumours about a Metal Gear Solid Collection have been swirling around for a couple of years now and it seems like Silent Hill isn’t the only franchise that Konami aims to bring back in a big way. The Metal Gear series from famed creator Hideo Kojima was once one of the biggest IPs in the gaming industry but has since fallen to obscurity following Kojima’s departure from Konami. A remastered collection would certainly pique interest in the franchise again.
It’s unclear if the rumoured collection will contain every Metal Gear Solid game released up until The Phantom Pain or if it will only remaster the first four mainline games. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots frustratingly remains playable only on PS3 so it would benefit the most from a modern remaster for wider audiences to play.
As with all rumours, take this with a pinch of salt for now. Tune into the PlayStation State of Play event tonight at 11pm CAT to find out if any of these reports are true.
