Last night during the Xbox Games Showcase, Atlus made a handful of announcements including Persona 3 Reload, a remake of Persona 3, and Persona 5 Tactica, a tactics game set in the universe of Persona 5. However, one surprise reveal came in the form of Metaphor: ReFantazio, a new RPG from the studio that heavily borrows elements from Persona and Shin Megami Tensei. It’s currently slated to release in 2024 for Xbox Series X/S and PC.
Metaphor: ReFantazio was previously known in the Atlus community as PROJECT Re FANTASY. While we did get a good look at gameplay in the reveal trailer, Atlus has confirmed that we’ll be able to see more of the game in a special livestream set to take place on 20 June at 10pm JST or 3pm CAT. The stream is up right now on YouTube and counting down.

The description of Metaphor: ReFantazio provided by Atlus reads:
“Write your destiny and rise above fear as you step into a fantasy world unlike anything you’ve seen before. Fraught with unsettling mystery, the kingdom stands on a precipice. Now, you must embark on a journey, overcoming obstacles and forging bonds with friends. From the creative minds of the Persona series—Metaphor: ReFantazio marks ATLUS’ first ever, full-scale fantasy RPG, brought to you by director Katsura Hashino, character designer Shigenori Soejima, and composer Shoji Meguro. Metaphor: Refantazio is developed by Studio Zero.”
The game is currently set to release sometime in 2024 for Xbox Series X/S and PC. No other platforms are mentioned but Atlus has a history of timed exclusivity with Microsoft. For example, Persona 3 Portable, Persona 4 Golden and Persona 5 Royal all launched on Xbox platforms 48 hours before they were announced for other platforms. It’s possible that it will be announced for PS5 shortly after release.
