Metro Exodus developer 4A Games announced a brand-new edition of the game coming to PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC in the coming months. Dubbed “Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition” this version of the game will offer superb new visual fidelity, ray-tracing, higher frame rates and more. Best of all, it is free for all existing owners of the game.

Metro Exodus was already a gorgeous game and probably one of the best-looking ones of the last generation. 4A Games claims that they are pushing the visuals even further in Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition. On consoles, the game will target 4K 60FPS with ray-tracing enabled (except for Series S, that will be 1080p).
The PS5 and Xbox Series X/S will also include some graphical options and hardware support including FOV slider and DualSense Controller features. The only thing missing in the console port will be “advanced ray-tracing reflections and DLSS 2.0 support, according to 4A Games.
“We have built an all-new Fully Ray Traced Lighting Pipeline that brings a number of optimisations, upgrades, and new features to the Ray Traced Global Illumination and Emissive Lighting that we pioneered with the original release of Metro Exodus, as well as an upgraded implementation of our powerful Temporal Reconstruction technology to further boost resolution, visual detail and performance.”
PC owners of the game will also get the new enhanced version if they already own the game. However, 4A Games is also launching the Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition as a standalone product so users can decide to either pick up the older version or the newer one when jumping into it for the first time.
“And we’ve pushed these enhancements to the limit to take advantage of the latest Ray Tracing capable GPU hardware from Nvidia and AMD, to create the ultimate version for our PC enthusiast fans.”
4A Games is also releasing a Mac version of Metro Exodus through the Apple Store, Steam and Epic Games Store. There’s also a Linux version releasing through Steam later this year. The developer says that the Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition will launch sometime in spring which is March onwards in SA.
