Metroid Prime 4 Beyond Nintendo Direct Gameplay Psychic Abilities

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond New Gameplay Shows Off Psychic Abilities

Metroid Prime 4: Beyond has debuted some brand new gameplay at the recent Nintendo Direct showcase. Nintendo confirmed that the anticipated first-person shooter game will be out sometime this year, though no concrete release date was announced yet. Samus will now come equipped with new psychic abilities that let her control the flow of time, manipulate objects and even control the trajectory of her shots.

In the new gameplay for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Nintendo put the spotlight on the new location of the game, Viewros, a lush alien planet teeming with dangerous wildlife that Samus must navigate. The gameplay showed off Samus taking on a variety of alien foes and boss battles. As is the case with all entries in the Prime series, gameplay is experienced from a first-person perspective through Samus’ helmet.

Nintendo put a lot of emphasis on Samus’ new psychic abilities which plays an integral part in gameplay. With the psychic power, Samus can control the flow of time, slowing down or freezing enemies in place to line up shots. It can also be used to literally control the trajectory of Samus’ shots as players can bend them while in motion to hit multiple targets at a time. It will also serve some purposes in exploration as it can be used to solve environmental puzzles too.

Unfortunately, Nintendo didn’t provide a release date for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond yet but at least we know it will be coming this year. The gameplay footage shown was running on the original Switch, so there’s a good chance that the upcoming Switch 2 will feature improved visuals and performance, assuming it also launches on Nintendo’s next-gen system. New gameplay was debuted last June which only briefly showed the game in action, so it’s good to have something a bit more substantial to look at until the game’s release.
