Microsoft has announced that it will be ending support and updates for Windows 10 mobile devices. Because of this, the company recommends that consumers switch to iOS or Android devices.

Microsoft first released the mobile version of Windows 10 in November 2015. Now, the company has announced that support and updates will end soon. There will no longer be any support given or updates released for the mobile version of Windows 10 after 10 December 2019. The company has recommended that users ditch their devices running Windows 10 and move to Android or iOS devices instead.

With the Windows 10 Mobile OS end of support, we recommend that customers move to a supported Android or iOS device. Some services including photo uploads and restoring a device from an existing device backup may continue to work for up to another 12 months from end of support.

After 10 December 2019, Microsoft will no longer continue to provide support and updates for Windows 10 for mobile devices. However, the company does claim that third-party support might work for up to 12 months after the final support and updates date for Windows 10 mobile. The company also said that certain services, like device backups and certain apps, will work until 10 March 2020.

However, it doesn’t seem to look like support will last that long for all Windows 10 mobile devices. For instance, Lumia 640 and 640 X devices, which were released in 2015, will no longer receive support and updates from Microsoft as early as 11 June 2018.

Only device models that are eligible for Windows 10 Mobile, version 1709 are supported through the end date. For Lumia 640 and 640 XL phone models, Window 10 Mobile version 1703 was the last supported OS version and will reach end of support on June 11th, 2019.

Microsoft has a tricky history with mobile devices and the end of Windows 10 mobile doesn’t help the company’s troubled mobile past.
