With the future being bright for cloud gaming and many gamers shifting to digital games instead of purchasing physical copies, Microsoft is now cutting the cost of putting a disc drive in their Xbox One S by offering gamers a cheaper console model for those who prefer to purchase digital games. The new disc-less console is called “Xbox One S All-Digital Edition” and will be sold alongside the original Xbox One S.
Priced at $249, the new Xbox One S All-Digital Edition does not have a disc drive at all. The console will be available from 7 May 2019 and will be available alongside the Xbox One S and Xbox One X. To be clear, Microsoft is not replacing the Xbox One S with this disc-less model. It is now part of the Xbox One family.

The console packs a 1TB HDD alongside digital versions of Forza Horizon 3, Sea of Thieves and Minecraft in the box. The hardware is the same as other Xbox One S consoles, minus the 4K Blu-Ray drive.

This new Xbox One S All-Digital Edition is much in line with Microsoft’s vision for their original Xbox One launch. A digital-only platform where players could share games they purchased but no discs. Perhaps Microsoft is truly looking into a next-gen Xbox console with no disc drive?
The new Xbox One S All-Digital Edition makes a lot of sense given the company’s aggressive push for its digital Xbox Game Pass program. You could purchase the console and have access to more than 100 games and all new exclusive releases which will never require you to put a disc into your console.
South African pricing and availability for the new Xbox One S All-Digital Edition has yet to be confirmed.
