Call of Duty Black Ops 6 Trailer Xbox Game Pass Day One

Microsoft is Reportedly Banking on Black Ops 6 to Drive Game Pass Growth

Microsoft is reportedly banking heavily on Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 to boost subscription numbers for Xbox Game Pass and drive its growth. The game will release day one on the higher Game Pass tiers – the first Call of Duty game to get a day-and-date drop on Microsoft’s subscription service.

It seems like there’s a lot riding on Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 to move the needle on Xbox Game Pass subscriber numbers and boost its growth. Microsoft’s revamp of Game Pass earlier this year not only introduced a price hike but also re-adjusted its day-one roll outs. For example, Black Ops 6 will only be available to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members on day one, with reports suggesting that standard Game Pass subscribers might only receive those big titles 12 months later.

Whether that plan works out or not remains to be seen, though Microsoft is putting all of its chips on the table for Black Ops 6‘s launch to sway new subscribers. According to The Verge’s Tom Warren:

“Sources tell me Microsoft is banking on Call of Duty on Game Pass to shift the needle for its subscription numbers and help grow its gaming revenues. There had been a long debate internally over whether to put this year’s Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 release on the service, and the company is now gambling that it will help improve Game Pass subscriber numbers amid a busy holiday season for new Xbox games and a promising year ahead.”

Microsoft also has Indiana Jones and The Great Circle locked in for a December release, which will also launch day one on Xbox Game Pass. In another risky play, Microsoft also confirmed that the game will be released on PS5 in early 2025. Talking about the game’s PS5 release, Microsoft Gaming boss Phil Spencer previously stated, “So I look at this, how can we make our games as strong as possible? Our platform continues to grow, on console, on PC, and on cloud. It’s just going to be a strategy that works for us.”

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 launches on 25 October 2024 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
