Microsoft wants everyone to benefit from its latest Copilot Pro features. The AI-powered Office tools were launched back in November for businesses but the company has now detailed how general users can sign up and make use of the features.
Microsoft says Copilot Pro is launching today for $20 a month and users will have access to AI-powered features inside apps like Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Being a subscriber to Copilot Pro also gives users access to the latest OpenAI models and the ability to build their own Copilot GPT.

If you’re already a Microsoft 365 Personal or Home subscriber then the $20 monthly price tag will be added to your existing subscription. Keep in mind that there’s no family plan for the service at this time so each member will have to fork out $20 to make use of the AI-powered tools.
Subscribing to Copilot Pro will give you access to features that include AI tools. For example, users can create PowerPoint slide decks from a chatbot-like prompt. In Microsoft Word, these tools will rephrase paragraphs, generate text and even summarize documents. In Outlook, the tools will help organize your emails, generate new ones and analyse data in each email thread.
Outside of the Microsoft Office environment, Copilot Pro also gives users access to the latest OpenAI models, improvements and Image Creator from Designer. You can also build your own Copilot GPT. Microsoft says that power users want more rapid access to the latest models and they want faster performance alongside creativity tools. To open up Copilot Pro to the public is a big deal for the company and it seems to be targeting those who find these tools useful.
The only barrier to entry at this point is the initial (expensive) outlay. Users will have to be subscribed to Microsoft 365 Personal of Family to get the Office-related apps. In addition, you’ll then need to pay the $20 monthly fee for Copilot Pro. The tools are available through both the apps and the web making them accessible wherever you are.
“Given that pattern we’ve been in, that rolling thunder, you can expect we’re going to do the exact same thing for Copilot Pro. It’s already coming in with a lot of features and functionality on top of Copilot… we want to continue to bring an additional premium value and we’re going to very quickly start to do that as well.”
