MindsEye Worst-Rated Game 2025

MindsEye Boss Blames ‘Internal and External Saboteurs’ For Game’s Failure

MindsEye, the debut action-adventure game from developer Build a Rocket Boy, launched last month to some of the worst reviews for a video game this year. As it stands, it’s currently the lowest-rated game of 2025. It was reported last month that shortly after the game’s release, the studio would be facing mass layoffs in the wake of the game’s poor reception. MindsEye studio boss Leslie Benzies has reportedly blamed “internal and external saboteurs” for its failure.

As reported by IGN, Leslie Benzies, who previously worked at Rockstar Games and on multiple Grand Theft Auto games, addressed his staff at Build a Rocket Boy this week, reportedly pinning the blame on “internal and external saboteurs” for MindsEye’s failure. His letter to staff also addresses that around 300 employees are now at risk of losing their jobs. Mass layoffs have yet to hit Build a Rocket Boy but it seems inevitable at this point.

MindsEye already found itself in some hot water before the game even launched. It seems like executives at Build a Rocket Boy have a tendency to shift blame a lot. Mark Gerhard, the co-CEO of the studio, previously claimed that people were paid to say negative things about the game during its early previews (which is ironic considering that most of the only positive reception coming out was allegedly from paid content creators and streamers). One week before the game’s launch, two executives at the company left for unknown reasons.

MindsEye has been criticised for its poor technical state, numerous performance issues, underwhelming gameplay and bad writing. Build a Rocket Boy released patches and updates in an attempt to fix some of its technical problems but the core issues of the game’s writing and gameplay can’t be remedied that easily.

MindsEye is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
