PlayStation owners who pre-ordered the latest MindsEye game have been seemingly refunded their purchases when contacting support. This follows the rocky launch of the game, where players have reported major performance issues, game-breaking bugs, and shoddy AI.
Sony is usually quite hard up on refunds from the PlayStation Store, and the platform’s Terms of Service and Cancellation Policy say that once you have downloaded a pre-ordered game and it says “Ready to Play”, you can’t get your money back.
However, it seems MindsEye is another rare exception to the rule. The last time Sony openly issued refunds for a game was Cyberpunk 2077, which bombed so hard at launch that it was even delisted from the PlayStation Store completely.
According to a number of users, they reached out to the PlayStation Store support desk to ask for their money back. Many of them complained that MindsEye is not what it was advertised. One user says the game was advertised as PS5 Pro Enhanced and runs at 60 FPS. However, playing the game, it is clear there are no PS5 Pro enhancements here.
As a result, Sony gave them the green light on the refund. The company refunded the entire purchase of the game.
Another user didn’t share how they got the refund but shared a message where the support desk confirmed it would be put back into his account and the game would be removed from his library. They simply claim that the performance was horrible, and Sony issued the refund.
The studio behind MindsEye, Build a Rocket Boy, published a new statement yesterday regarding the ongoing launch bugs and performance issues. According to the team, roughly one in ten players are being affected by a “memory leak,” and this is what is causing the horrendous performance issues.
The studio didn’t comment on the other issues, which include buggy AI, players falling through the map, and ragdoll physics that sees assets melt and stretch across the screen.
We are heartbroken that not every player was able to experience the game as we intended,” it wrote. “Our priority is optimizing performance and stability so that every player, across every device, can enjoy an equally high-quality experience. Our teams have worked tirelessly throughout the night to solve many of these issues, and we have now identified that the vast majority of crashes were caused by a memory leak. This impacted roughly 1 in 10 of our players. We are fully committed to ensuring all our players have a great experience, and we will continue to provide frequent and transparent updates. We will do our best to respond to all your comments and feedback.”
MindsEye is likely one of 2025’s worst game releases. Even before the launch of this GTA-like game, the game was criticised for poor marketing and showing barely any gameplay at all. All of these launch issues are kind of expected given how the studio tried to hide the game away from the public until right before launch day.
