After a couple of weeks of teasing, Microsoft has officially revealed Minecraft Earth, where the entire planet will be your playground. Minecraft Earth is without a doubt an extremely ambitious Augmented Reality (AR) title for mobile devices (Android and iOS) that will be free-to-play when it launches.
A specific release date has not been announced for Minecraft Earth just yet but from the trailer, which you can view at the bottom of this article, it does look awesome and definitely a step up from other AR titles such as Pokemon GO. A closed beta will take place “this summer” which is winter for us South Africans, so don’t forget to sign up to the newsletter on the game’s official website here.
According to Microsft, you will be able to create, explore and survive like “never before” as the world of Minecraft enters our universe in a whole new way thanks to the power of AR. Players will be able to team up to create massive builds and even go on some mini-adventures together. You will also find the mobs you know from Minecraft as well as some new ones out in the world, and you will even be able to breed unique variants which you will then use in your builds. Then, there’s obviously resource collection as you explore the world and you will be able to share your creation with others. Check out the key Minecraft Earth features revealed so far below.
