Yesterday, we reported on a story that Monster Hunter Rise would be heading to PlayStation and Xbox consoles after it was only ever released on Nintendo Switch and PC. Capcom has now officially confirmed that the game will launch on 20 January 2023 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S as well as Xbox Game Pass. The base game will cost $39.99, with the Sunbreak expansion expected to arrive in spring 2023.
Monster Hunter Rise was first released on Nintendo Switch before finding its way to PC, where it enjoyed quite a bit of success. Most fans assumed that Rise would mostly remain a portable experience in the series like Generations, but it turns out Capcom had bigger plans for its latest entry.

Capcom provided an overview of the game:
“Monster Hunter Rise is the latest installment in the action RPG series and transports players to Kamura Village, a colorful and tranquil setting that attracts visitors with its unique culture and innovative hunting technologies. The core gameplay experience in Monster Hunter Rise stays true to the previous highly-praised Monster Hunter entries. Hunters must equip their armor and select from one of the 14 different weapon types to tackle daunting foes.”
This is excellent news for PlayStation and Xbox players, especially those craving more Monster Hunter after the release of World and its expansion, Iceborne. According to rumours, Capcom is already developing the true “current-gen” follow-up to World so it will be a while until we see that. In the meantime, Rise should be enough to keep fans busy during the long wait.
Monster Hunter Rise releases on 20 January 2023 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. It will also be available day one on Xbox Game Pass.
