Every Monster Hunter Game Ranked Worst to Best

Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak Launches in April on PlayStation and Xbox

The massive expansion for Monster Hunter Rise, titled Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak, has finally been announced for PlayStation and Xbox with a pinned release date of 28 April 2023. The base game launched on PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S earlier this year after being a timed exclusive on Nintendo Switch and PC. It looks like more console players will be able to experience Sunbreak and Master Rank soon.

Capcom announced the news at its recent Capcom Spotlight showcase, confirming that it will launch on 28 April. In order to play the Sunbreak expansion, players will need to own the base game on their chosen console. It’s not known if the Sunbreak expansion will be available on Xbox Game Pass like the base game but it seems unlikely, so Game Pass players will probably need to purchase Sunbreak separately.

Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak is a massive expansion to the base game, adding a treasure trove of new, challenging monsters to the experience as well as the addition of Master Rank, a higher tier of the hunter’s rank that players can climb. The expansion also includes a new region and new monsters introduced to the franchise including its flagship Elder Dragon, Malzeno.

Monster Hunter Rise is currently Capcom’s second-highest selling game of all time with 11.7 million copies sold as of December 2022. It trails behind Monster Hunter World which managed to sell around 18.6 million copies since its launch in 2018, making Monster Hunter the most profitable series in the publisher’s history. It’s an impressive achievement considering that it also stacks up against the massively popular Resident Evil franchise.
