Last night during PlayStation’s recent State of Play showcase, Capcom unveiled a new launch trailer for Monster Hunter Wilds which also confirmed that the first free title update, arriving shortly after the game’s release, will add a free monster in the form of fan-favourite beauty, Mizutsune. The update will release in spring 2025 though no exact release date has been set yet.
Capcom demonstrated its commitment to ongoing free updates for Monster Hunter Wilds – something that won many players over with Monster Hunter World – that promises a steady flow of new monsters gradually being added to the game over time. Mizutsune, a fan-favourite monster first introduced in Monster Hunter Generations, will be the first added as a free update to all players. Players can expect more free monsters and content added to the game post-launch.
In addition to Mizutsune, Capcom also teased some brand new monsters that players can expect in the full game. A “truly massive monster” named Jin Dahaad was showcased in the launch trailer and it looks quite intimidating. Players speculate that we might be looking at a potential new elder dragon.

Capcom will host the second round of the next open beta test for Monster Hunter Wilds this weekend. Due to last weekend’s 24-hour PlayStation Network outage, the company announced that players will have an additional day to enjoy the beta before the launch of the full game.
Monster Hunter Wilds launches on 28 February 2025 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. Watch the launch trailer from the State of Play showcase below.
